ARE YOU HAVING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR KOMONDOR ? If your Komondor ever growls or bares his teeth at you, a family member or a friend, that is a warning sign which cannot be ignored. It might be over his food bowl, toys, or simply because he doesn’t want to get off a piece of furniture. Your Komondor is dominant by nature, and he may be challenging his order in the “family pack.” The humans must be higher up in the pack order over the dog. Do not ignore this behavior thinking it will not reoccur. It can easily escalate to the point where the owner is unable to keep the dog.
If the breeder or the rescue where you adopted the dog cannot be reached for assistance, do call me and I will either help you or connect you with an experienced Komondor owner in your area. If you need assistance with grooming or cording your dog or just have questions about your Komondor, you may contact me, Ruth Keller, at 610-942-7171 or komondor@comcast.net . You can also reach out to the Middle Atlantic States Komondor Club (www.maskc.org) The Club website has additional information and books on the breed.
I am having the exact problem you listed. My Komondor, Moose is an extremely sweet, gentle dog. I can take away food, his bone, toys, ect all without problems. But a few times lately he has growled at me. Once with a loaf of bread he stole and once with my jacket. Obviously unacceptable but it’s so rare that I don’t know how to handle it when it happens.
Thank you
