Looking for a Home: Cooper
“Cooper is an eleven-month-old female Komondor. She is spayed, up-to-date on all medicals, and she is approx 100 pounds, not corded. Cooper came to us approximately 6 months ago as a foster. Her owner had a medical emergency and could not provide for her at that time. We decided that foster with reunification as the end goal was in her best interest. Sadly, for health reasons her owner cannot take her back.
Cooper is in South Carolina at this time. She is inside/outside mostly inside. We live on a small farm, with cows, chickens, and a pig. We have children under the age of 8, she is socially aware she meets and greets strangers well at Walmart and Lowes as well as at pet big box stores. She rides well and enjoys camping with her foster family. She opens doors and let’s herself out to potty. We have had no accidents at this time. She is addicted to paper in the trash. We are working on this. She walks well on a lead by herself and with the other dogs. She likes to lead the pack. She needs more obedience training and socialization.”
If interested, please fill out the adoption form and send it to Ruth Keller: komondor@comcast.net

We think he may be about 5 years old, but we can’t be sure. He’s a big dog (about 85 pounds), but he should have been much larger. When he came into rescue, he was terribly underweight, his skin was a mess (sarcoptic mange), and his teeth were worn to nubs. And while we couldn’t fix his teeth, he’s done a great job of overcoming his other health issues.
He doesn’t take kindly to strangers, especially when they come into his home, and that may or may not change over time. So he needs a very understanding family, preferably with Komondor or other LGD experience. He will require time to adjust to a new home and new owners. If given the chance and the time, he is an amazing, loving, and loyal friend.
If interested in meeting or adopting Shep, please apply on our website at http://www.tgspca.org.
Looking for a Home: Kiki – adopted!
There is a wonderful 1 year old energetic female Komondor in the Nashville, TN area that is looking for a special home. She is going to be spayed, cleaned and cut down. She was out with animals, but wants to be with people and would prefer to be trained to be a house dog. She will make someone a wonderful companion, but the owner must know and understand the breed and have lots of room outside for her to release her energy.
Please fill out the adoption form and send it to Ruth Keller: komondor@comcast.net

Looking for a Home: Piper – ADOPTED!
Piper is a very sweet 4-year-old pure bred 81 lb. female Komondor. She is 4 years old, housebroken and was rescued from a bad situation, living with two young children that teased her and we not kind to her. She does not like small children, but is great with everyone else. Piper is bonded with people, so she will not work out as a livestock guardian. If she is with another dog, that dog must be submissive and let her be the alpha dog, or they will not get along. She is fine with cats. Piper is affectionate, alert, and inquisitive, and will guard and stay by your side as she follows you around the house in the hopes you will stop and rub her belly.
If you are interested: Please complete the adoption application form on: www.komondorrescue.com or on www.maskc.org.

He suddenly started becoming food aggressive and bit the owner’s (adult) daughter’s hand, when she removed the food dish.

He needs a good home that not only understands the breed, but has owned a Komondor or LGD.

Looking for a Home – In a Shelter in San Bernadino, CA
Looking for a Home: Harry
Harry is a five-year-old Komondor neutered male, currently in a foster home. He is up to date on all vaccines. He was turned into a shelter because he was barking and a neighbor complained.
The past owners did not understand the breed and how to raise a Komondor. He must have an experienced Komondor owner. He needs a firm but gentle hand. Harry needs a home on the quieter side without a lot of activity with people coming and going. He has been well behaved with his foster mom and gets along well with other dogs. He loves to lie on his back for a tummy rub. He is a family dog and would do best in that setting.
If you are interested in adoption, complete the adoption form and send it to komondor@comcast.net
Looking for a Home: Ollie – ADOPTED!!
Ollie is an 18 mo. old neutered male Komondor in a new foster home. Ollie was recently rescued from an animal shelter (photo below). He must have an experienced Komondor owner. He is an active teenager and needs to gain confidence with an alpha owner (not a heavy handed one) that knows how to earn his respect and trust. He needs a firm but gentle hand.
Ollie lived mostly inside. He lived with a family with children of 7, 13, 18, and 20 years of age. The 18-year-old daughter was very connected to him. He lived with cats and bunnies and had playdates with other dogs. He was not left alone for very long, generally around 2 hours at a time. Being a large teenager, he is usually playful but can get too rough. He may be afraid of some men and some children.
The past owner turned him in was in the house and he pushed out the back door and bit the landscaper. Another time Ollie did not want to go to his crate and nipped the owner.
Ollie was just neutered, vaccinated, and is heartworm negative and on preventative medicine.
In the short time at his new foster home, Ollie became attached to his new “people” immediately. He is protective when new people visit. At first, we thought he did not know any commands, but then he responded to sit, shake, and down when offered treats. He does not come when we call his name unless there is a treat involved. He walks very nicely on a leash. He sleeps quietly through the night and wants to be by our sides during the day.
If you are interested in adoption, complete the adoption form and send it to komondor@comcast.net

Looking for a Home: Cola
Cola is available for adoption to a very special pet home. She is Komondor-Great Pyrenees mix. If you are interested, please contact Carol (Ozark Dog Rescue Org.) at: ozarkdogs@Suddenlink.net.
Cola is a delight. She has that typical Komondor mischievousness. She will require a family with a great sense of humor and a priority of neatness. She loves to ‘help’ by re-arranging things. She never tears anything up, just delights in collecting things and putting them in different places. No matter where I set down her food bowl, she will pick it up in her mouth and very carefully move it. If it is on the deck, she will bring it through the doggie door inside to eat. If it is inside, she may move it down the ramp and into the back yard. She is very careful not to spill. She also has a tendency to collect and move the food bowls set out for the other dogs. She shares. She just has her own sense of dinner placement.
She particularly likes collecting clothing left in her reach. Because of birth defects to her hind legs, she does not counter surf, but she will stretch her nose as far as it will reach in hopes of clearing the bathroom of towels left on the tub or discarded clothing. One day I woke up to find the clean clothes I had laid out on the bathroom counter strung through the bedroom and into her room and out the door – Levis, socks, shoes, T-shit, sweatshirt and bra all in a neat pathway leading to my undies outside on the deck. I was just 5′ away from the sheets with my back turned when she made off with them.
One night I was abruptly awakened when my head went ‘clunk’. She stole my pillow right out from under my head. How can you not love a dog with such a great personality?
What makes this mischievousness so delightful is her sad past. She was in a small pen with another female Komondor (Pepsi) on a 108 acre farm with 20+ other Komondors and Pyrenees. All but one of the dogs were feral. None ever showed any aggression, but they had been terribly socially neglected. Terrified of humans. She was said to be 4 years old when I got her and 11 others from the farm after the owner died. That was in August 2013. It has taken a long time and a lot of patience to get these dogs trusting. Because Cola is so willing to come in my room and help herself to my things, it delights me. I know I have reached her and gained her trust.
She loves sleeping on her toddler bed. She likes to be elevated but will settle for a crib mattress on the floor. She does not have a problem getting on the toddler bed but anything higher would be a challenge to her hind legs. She does walk a bit stiff legged, but can almost keep up with the others when they run and play.

Looking for a Home: Sebastian
Sebastian is a charismatic young Komondor with a wonderfully sunny disposition and he debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA (www.nevadaspca.org). He is still very puppy-like at 1 year of age, 82 pounds and still growing. Also, we had to shave Sebastian’s matted coat, but the long and corded coats of Komondors requires great cleaning and care. Sebastian is now neutered, good with dogs, housetrained & crate-trained. He is fearful of some men who are loud or reach for him too quickly.

Looking for a Home: Robi – Update: Adopted!
This Komondor is a five year old neutered male and needs to go to a home experienced with Komondors.
The shelter said the only way he can be adopted is for the new owner to pick him up in person at the shelter in McMinnville, Oregon 97128. If you are interested in adoption, please contact me (610-942-7171 or komondor@comcast.net) for more information.
Robi came into the shelter for the first time in August of this year. He sat for a while while we tried to get the owners to redeem him. It was a daughters dog in Calif and they didn’t want the responsibility. Then we adopted him out to do what Komondors do… Turns out he doesn’t feel as though he needs to be on a farm with livestock. SO! here he is. A big ol goofy playful 5 year old boy who would truly do best in a home where he was the only one to be loved! He reminds me of Barkley on sesame st. He is such a good boy, has some obedience and is truly eager to please. He is just a BIG dog who needs someone who knows how to handle BIG dogs.
Please check out: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/komondor.htm
for more information. And then, come meet Robi and take him home!
He is available for adoption as of 10/19/13.
His adoption fee is $100.00 and includes:
Neuter ~ VACCINATIONS.

Looking for a Home: Leo – Komondor and Great Pyrenees
Leo is a most adoptable four year old dog. He is combination of Komondor and Great Pyrenees. He was turned in by the owner along with a smaller dog. It appears he was tied outside, as his coat was heavily matted and discolored by the red clay soil. He tolerated hours of grooming by strangers and was most grateful afterward. He is very underweight at 50 pounds.
He is currently in a county animal shelter and needs to be a house dog and will make a wonderful pet for the right home.
If you are interested in adoption, please contact me (610-942-7171 or komondor@comcast.net) for more information.

This young Komondor (2 1/2 yrs. old) is an import from Hungary, and is neutered and up to date with his shots. His owners got him at 8 weeks of age. He has been living with an older Komondor and St. Bernard and has become dominant over the other two dogs, as well as the wife of the owner. He is in great need of a home.

UPDATE: I want to thank people for their interest in adopting Leela and Barley. Their owner relocated to KY and decided to place them in a home nearby, rather than turn them over to the Middle Atlantic States Komondor Club rescue and have them go to a home some distance away. However, I am very happy to report that the owner allowed our Club to pay for having both girls spayed before placement and both dogs are now up to date on vaccines. I especially want to thank Grants Lick Veterinary Hospital for all they did for both dogs and for assisting our Club Rescue.Looking for a Home:
I have two female Koms that sadly I have to find a new home for. One is turning 3 years old on June 1st and the other one is around 6 years old ( rescued her from a shelter). Leela the 3 year old is good with other dogs/cats and good with kids, she is hyper as most puppies are. Barley the 6 year old would be best in a home without other dogs, she was mistreated in her last home and so she has some food aggression but she is calm and really lovable just as long as the other dogs don’t go around her food. We are located in Maryland. Contact: komondor@comcast.net.
I am looking for a LGD puppy to adopt. I have questions about different breeds of them.
I have 1 acre with a 4ft secure chain length fence, 1 kitten, 1 young loose tortus pet, 2 baby pygmy goats pets, occasional meat goats/sheep, chickens, a 2 year old son, and i’m pregnant.
I would like to know which breed is smallest, which breed will protect but not harm visters or thier pets if they bring their dog and which breed is best with children.
Thanks for your post. Given the situation you describe below, we would not recommend a komondor or any other LGD puppy or juvenile. These dogs take as much care and training as a young child. I would suggest reading this article to learn more:
https://komondorrescue.com/kom-right-breed-for-you/
We’ve had 3 komondors in the past (one a rescue dog) and they are amazing and loyal guardians, but do need consistent and careful training. Our “Argus” was exceptional with other homestead animals! We miss him very much.
We are interested in adopting again.
I HAVE HAD 3 KOMONDORS AND STILL HAVE ONE SHE HAS CANCER, AM CARING FOR THAT BUT WILL LOOSE HER SOON, I OWN A 42 ACRE FARM WITH HORSES AND LHAMAS DONKEYS. WOULD LOVE TO ADOPT.
HI kathleen.
I just read your post about wanting to adopt a Komondor. I have a two year old male Kom. For work reasons we are going to be moving from a small town to the city, sadly we can’t have the dog with us anymore. He loves humans, specially kids, he is a wonderful pet , he likes to follow you around. He loves to go on walks, sleeps in his crate, and he is house trainned. I could tell you many more things about him it really breaks our heart to see him go…Anyway if you are still interested please contact me.
Thanks.
GERADO. I AM VERY INTERESTED IN YOUR KOMONDOR. PLEASE SEND ME MORE ONFO ON HI. AND WHAT STATE YOU ARE IN. AS I WOULD DRIVE TO PICK HIM UP. PICTURES IF YOU HAVE SOME. DOES HE GET ALONG WITH CATS. AND OTHER FARM ANIMALS. THANKS. KATHY
Looking for a Home:
Pebbles is our 4th LGD, and 2nd Kom. We need 2 at all times to protect our commercial ewe flock of 100 and their lambs. I do know how to bring them along for the best chance for success. We have certainly had episodes of inappropriate playing with stock with other dogs, but never have had actual extreme bloody mauling. Besides this, she is NOT bonded with livestock at all. She came to our farm to be an LGD but after a year and much time, training and attention, she has become even rougher with the lambs. This week she caused lethal damage, so we are giving up on her for this job.
She is extremely well socialized with people (we got her at about a year old from a busy family full of kids). She is very well bred but not registered.
She is not spayed, but that will need to be done by her adopters; recently had a full body clip, walks on a leash, great with other dogs, less territorial than a Kom we used to have but she will certainly bark at unusual things, fine with horses and not a threat to our cats. Please let me know if you can help find Pebbles a new home. We are located in Oregon, near Eugene.

Kathleen,
Are you still interested in adopting a Kom?
Hi, I’m very interested in adopting a Komondor when one comes available next. I’m a responsible, work-from-home adult who has one other dog and a large home with a moderate backyard and a lake home that we can visit for funtime.
I know of a well trained 19 month old neutered male Kom who needs a new home. Located in North Carolina, he needs to be in a child-free family.
I thought I’d left a reply this morning, but it’s very possible it fell through. if you sitll have the Komondor, I am interested. My email is jessethaxton @ yaho.com
Can you contact. Me? I live in a child free home and am interested.
I am the mom of the 19 month old neutered male Kom Laura mentioned. I will gladly deliver him to the right family regardless of location. He is well trained, super friendly, very people oriented, and well integrated into our family. Please email or call me if you are interested!

Thank you!
Hi. My name is Amy and I have a 6.5 month old male Komondor. He is very docile and just wants to be loved. The problem we are having with Doug is he has growled at my boys and nipped at them over a bone he likes or over a toy he likes. When these things are removed he is wonderful. I have a second dog who is much more calm with my kids and quite honestly I do not have the time to devote to training Doug. He did go to obedience training for three weeks. He can sit, laydown, stay, and come. He walks amazing on a leash and truly loves his walks. He is very close to being potty trained. We use the bell system to go out. I am truly heartbroken that we can’t keep Doug. I just want to see him go to a loving home. If you are interested please contact me.
My contact info is as follows
